Davos: In the 13th century, when the "Walsers" settled in the Davos region to live as farmers, certainly nobody thought of Davos to become Europe's highest altitude holiday and congress resort some 700 years later. With an altitute of 1'560 m Davos practically guarantees good snow conditions and is virtually fog-free all year. Of utmost importance for the skiing region was the construction of Europe's first ski-lift and the ropeways.
